چکیده

This paper presents the performance of a turbocharger under non-adiabatic conditions in order to assess the impact of heat transfer. A commercial turbocharger was installed on a 2.0 liter diesel engine and measurements were conducted for a range of engine speeds and loads. The test results enabled to assess the impact of the engine on the temperature distribution of the bodies constituting the turbocharger, quantify the heat fluxes through the turbocharger and evaluate their effects on the deterioration of compressor performance. A 1-D heat transfer model was also developed and validated against the experimental measurements. The algorithms calculate the heat transferred through the turbocharger by means of lump capacitances. Compressor maps were then generated for a range of speeds and temperatures of the exhaust gases at the inlet to turbine and the efficiency drop associated with heat transfer was quantified. Based on the data generated by the model, a new correlation for the compressor non-adiabatic efficiency was found by means of a multiple regression analysis; the work is based on a statistical description of the different parameters that affect the heat transfer model.

Admission Effects on the Flow Behaviour of a Double Entry Turbocharger Turbine

Dual turbocharger turbine is fed by an unequal out-of-phase mass flow charge almost all the time which have significant effects on its performance parameters and flow phenomena which are not well known. Besides fully understanding the flow behavior in the radial turbine suffers from lack of detailed information about the secondary flows. This article studies the secondary flow structure within ...

Parameterization and Transient Validation of a Variable Geometry Turbocharger for Mean-Value Modeling at Low and Medium Speed-Load Points

The parameterization of variable geometry turbochargers for mean-value modeling is typically based on compressor and turbine flow and efficiency maps provided by the supplier. At low turbocharger speeds, and hence low airflows, the heat exchange via the turbocharger housing affects the temperature-based measurements of the efficiencies. Therefore, the lowspeed operating regime of the turbocharg...

Experimental study of the effects of repetitive surge condition on turbocharger performance

When the mass flow rate through the compressor is reduced at a constant pressure ratio, mass flow rate will drop to an extent that the complete reversal of flow and surge occurs. Recently many research focuses on turbocharger surge, however, there are not enough investigation on the effect of surge on the performance of the turbocharger. The aim of the paper is to investigate the effect of repe...

Performance Analysis of a Variable Geometry Turbocharger Using Mean Line Method

Turbocharging an engine boosts its power by increasing the amount of input air. This task is accomplished by using the exhaust gas to power a turbine which is engaged with a compressor. The Variable Geometry Turbocharger, VGT is a unique turbocharger that the diffuser vane angle can be changed over a wide range of positions. The mathematics of turbomachinery flow analysis is intensive and uses ...

Influence of Thermal Radiation Models on Prediction of Reactive Swirling Methane/Air Flame in a Model Gas Turbine Combustor

A numerical simulation of reactive swirling methane/air non-premixed flame in a new three-dimensional model combustion chamber is carried out to assess the performance of two thermal radiation models, namely, the Discrete Transfer Radiation Model and the P-1 Model. A Finite Volume staggered grid approach is employed to solve the governing equations. The second-order upwind scheme is applied for...
